Sharon Dukes ~ A Summer Success Story
Tree Trust’s Summer Youth Employment Program helps Twin Cities youth, ages 14-21, gain work experience and school credit by preforming a wide range of jobs, including park maintenance, clerical, childcare, and janitorial. Sharon Dukes is a prime example of the success youth may achieve through Tree Trust’s summer program.

Sharon, a junior at Park Center High School, enjoys hanging out with her friends, going to movies and babysitting her siblings and kids in the neighborhood. This interest led her to a position during the summer through Tree Trust at the Little Folks Daycare Center in Crystal. She proved to be a great employee with her skills and positive work attitude and a wonderful addition to the Little Folks’ team. Sharon described her first year working with Tree Trust as fun and rewarding.
Besides gaining new work experience, skills and some spending money, Sharon was offered a permanent position as a part time employee of Little Folks Daycare. She now works at the daycare after school and continues to enjoy spending time with the children she got to know over the summer. Her favorite part of working for Little Folks is playing with the kids and making them happy. “I enjoy cheering them up when they’ve had a bad day,” she says.
Sharon has discovered her love of children and plans to pursue her future goals of one day going to medical school and becoming a reconstructive surgeon for children. “I would love to travel to other countries and help children who have deformities so they won’t be made fun of,” she declared with a smile.
Congratulations Sharon and Little Folks Day Care.
