Community Support Program
Parents receiving state assistance need to develop work skills and experience to transition into the workforce. Community organizations and businesses need extra hands to keep their workloads manageable. This program acts as a bridge to meet both these needs. Placement counselors connect participants to paid and unpaid work experiences at host sites throughout the Twin Cities to invest in and strengthen the community as a whole.
2009 Program Highlights
- Matched 1,416 parents with work experiences at over 325 host sites throughout the Twin Cities
- Participants gained job experience in the areas of administrative assistance, childcare, customer service, retail, landscaping, food service, housekeeping and healthcare
- 130 participants obtained permanent employment as a result of their participation in the program
- 95% of participants who earned wages while participating reported gaining positive work experience through the program
