winter tree care

Team Tree Trust

It was all hands on deck at Lake Riley in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. On a recent sunny morning, along the forested trails nearby a frozen blue lake, Tree Trust’s Career Pathways and Landscape Services teams converged to tackle a large project. Our Landscape Services team worked alongside our Career Pathways participants to remove ash trees damaged by emerald ash borer (EAB). Our Landscape Services team offers valuable expertise to Branches participants, giving them the opportunity to mirror a day in the life of certified tree care professionals and learn about advanced tree care.

Landscape Services: Professional Arborists

Tree Trust’s Landscape Services, a social enterprise that supports our nonprofit programs, provides professional contracting services in tree care & landscaping. As our Branches participants near graduation, they were excited for the opportunity to advance their tree care skills collaborating with Tree Trust’s professional arborists. Dead or dying ash trees are notoriously brittle, posing a safety risk to the community, but creates a perfect training ground for aspiring arborists. Our Landscape Services team delivers valuable insight and experience to our young pre-apprentices as they explore the career path of a certified arborist.

Professional Tree Removal & Advanced Tree Care

Collaborating as a team is a great way to break down big projects into smaller manageable tasks. As Landscape Services worked to fell pest-infested ash trees, Branches participants learned how to advance their chainsaw cutting techniques. After trees are felled or cut down, more work remains. Participants learned how to cut large portions of the dead tree into smaller more manageable pieces— a process called bucking. Smaller more compact logs can easily be picked up with the mini skid steer and delivered to the woodchipper. The scenic trail along Lake Riley is a popular green space for residents to enjoy. Together, Branches and Landscape Services’ removed dead ash trees to ensure everyone can continue to enjoy this beautiful space safely.

Tree Trust is Here to Help

As EAB ravages Minnesota’s urban tree canopy it is important to remove infected ash trees and replant a diverse variety of trees. In addition to supporting our Career Pathways programming, Tree Trust’s certified arborists are here to help identify a healthy tree and schedule removal of potentially hazardous trees. Reach out to Landscape Services today for all your tree care needs.Â
