Myesha came to Tree Trust seeking work. She had part-time experience in retail, but had a passion for childcare and wanted to learn more about the field. Tree Trust secured a paid-internship for her at Sunshine Tree Child Development as part of our Supported Work Program, which specifically serves recipients of the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP).
Between September and December 2017, Tree Trust was able to serve 52 young people like Myesha. Participants were placed on crews completing outdoor maintenance and construction work, or at individual businesses in childcare, retail, and administrative positions. In addition to their paid work experiences, participants received Employment Skills lessons such as budget planning, completing a job application, and building a resume.
Myesha’s supervisor, Evette, said of Myesha’s work: “Even in the midst of her struggle with housing, Myesha does a great job with the children as well as staff… She cleans the room faithfully and is always willing to assist in any way needed… The children really enjoy her, and she gives them the love and patience that they need on a daily basis.” Myesha’s Tree Trust supervisor also noted Myesha’s positive attitude and initiative in the program.
As the end of Myesha’s internship approached, she was offered and accepted a position at Sunshine Tree Child Development!
