Rooted in Community
The honeyed aroma of flowering trees beckons us outdoors. Minnesota sidewalks, parks, and green spaces transform into bustling hubs of people recreating, socializing, and forming the bonds of strong community. According to researchers at Green Cities: Good Health, “Greener neighborhoods, especially those with green common areas, encourage social bonding between neighbors and improve the social setting.” Like the sturdy trees that anchor them, communities find strength in their collective roots. Tree by tree, Tree Trust is connecting Minnesota communities and growing greener futures for generations to come.
Planting Community Trees
This spring Tree Trust is helping a Minneapolis community grow their tree canopy. With support from Takeda Pharmaceuticals and a partnership with community group 36th ART (Avenue Revitalization & Transformation), we are offering free trees to residents of Minneapolis who live on 36th Avenue between 25th Street and Lake Street! Residents must simply agree to water and care for their new trees. New trees will be planted by Tree Trust staff and volunteers this spring. Neighbors are excited for the opportunity to come together to beautify their community. One community member stated, “More trees on 36th Avenue will make the street more beautiful, feel calmer, socially connected, and environmentally friendly for us all to enjoy as we walk, bike, and drive through the neighborhood.” Planting trees together connects communities, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility among residents while enhancing the overall well-being of neighborhoods. If you or someone you know lives on 36th Avenue between 25th Street and Lake Street, click here, for more information about this FREE full-service planting opportunity!
Improving Tree Accessibility
Tree Trust simplifies tree access through discounted tree sales held every spring and fall, facilitated by partnerships with local municipalities. Planting established trees is expensive, incurring costs of up to $250 per tree. Through collaboration with community partners, we offer a diverse selection of trees at affordable prices, making them readily accessible to residents. Happy new tree owners pick up their trees at tree distributions. Our tree distribution events bring together tree enthusiasts to assist with unloading and setup. Parking lots across the Twin Cities Metro Area transform into pop-up tree farms filled with rows of potted trees, bags of mulch, and friendly volunteers ready to load trees into customers’ vehicles. Happy new tree owners are gifted with a tree owner’s manual filled with helpful tips to facilitate successful tree planting experiences.
Support Green Futures™
In a recent interview with NPR, author and ecologist Suzanne Simard says, “Trees are ‘social creatures’ that communicate with each other in cooperative ways that hold lessons for humans, too.” Let’s be like trees and work together to transform lives and landscapes! Tree Trust’s Green Futures program adds thousands of trees to our environment annually, creating a more sustainable urban forest. Your gift today will help us plant more trees, connecting community with each tree we plant.
