Minneapolis Trees

The deadline has passed for residents of Minneapolis to purchase trees. Thank you for your interest.

Leaf Your Legacy

Planting a tree is the easiest way to improve the value of your property, reduce your energy needs, shrink your carbon footprint and improve our air and water quality. In 2009, the City of Minneapolis is providing 1,000 trees to Minneapolis residents, each tree costing less than a tank of gas.

Do your part to make Minneapolis a greener city by planting one of these trees this May. Here’s how...

Things to Consider

Please review these considerations before placing an order for a tree.

  • Only Minneapolis residents are eligible to purchase a tree through this program.
  • You may only order one tree per Minneapolis address.
  • Do not plant on the boulevard (between sidewalk and street).
  • It’s the law to call Gopher State One Call (651) 454-0002 at least three days before digging. They will mark buried utility lines for your safety.
  • Save money on energy by planting large shade trees on the west or east side of your home and evergreens on the north and west side of your home.
  • You will receive a folder containing information about tree planting and care when you pick up your tree.
  • In order to reduce future problems, large shade trees (elm and oak) should be planted at least 30 feet away from nearby power lines, building, and/or driveways.

Tree Pick Up

Pick up your tree at the former Franklin Middle School East parking lot, 1501 Aldrich Avenue North, Minneapolis, 55411.

Volunteers will be available to help load your new tree and complimentary bag of mulch into your vehicle.

Please note: Trees may be up to 10 feet tall, so be sure to bring a suitable vehicle.

 Saturday, May 9  7:00am-3:00pm
 Sunday, May 10  7:00am-3:00pm
